A little about me…

Let me introduce myself! My name is Debbie Moon, founder of Genetic Lifehacks. I am fascinated by the connections between genes, diet, and health, and I want to share that passion with you so that you can learn how to apply genetics to your diet and lifestyle decisions.
My undergraduate degree is in engineering, and I graduated with a MSc in biological sciences from Clemson University in 2019.

I’m combining an engineering mindset with a biological systems approach to ‘hacking’ your health. Over the years I have worked as an engineer, web developer, home educator, and high school STEM teacher. I’ve always been passionate about sharing science with people.

Investigating my genetic data from 23andMe ignited a real excitement for diving into the topic of genetics and health. Finally, everything was clicking into place. Using the genetic data as a starting point, I figured out which food and supplements work for me — and why general nutritional advice generally wasn’t right for me personally.

I started Genetic Lifehacks to share what I’m learning with others who are heading down this same path. I wanted to do it in a way that is freely accessible to everyone, without the financial biases inherent in selling a product line.

Every Genetic Lifehacks article is based on peer-reviewed studies and includes links to the references. This is important to me — sharing real science that is based on research, in a way that everyone can understand.

Genetics is still a new field of study, and your genetic data can’t tell you everything. Yet! But a lot of exciting research has already shown us that we can learn quite a bit from our genetic data. Instead of just wandering in the dark about health topics, genetics right now is a flashlight to show us what is going on in our bodies.

I hope you will join me on this journey towards engineering your optimal health.
